Kenilworth Court
Completed in 1904 Kenilworth Court is a prestigious set of mansion blocks.
There are 8no blocks of flats many of which overlook the River Thames and are in close proximity to Putney Bridge.
Minerva were initially engaged to offer advice on the maintenance of the existing building fabric. Minerva submitted reports and specifications to the client.
We were then instructed to act as Principal Contractor to undertake a full external refurbishment programme of works to many of the 8no blocks.
These works included:
Erecting fully independent scaffold to full height (6no storeys) and to all elevations.
A DOFF steam clean of the red brick/faience dressed elevations was undertaken giving fantastic before and after results (see photos). Added to this was a request to de-grease, clean and re-polish the terrazzo entrances to the buildings.
Once the cleaning works were completed detailed masonry and timber repair schedules were produced by Minerva.
Following client approval to the schedules provided, we carried out repairs to the faience/terracotta copings/string courses/gables and the highly decorative main entrances.
The final element in the refurbishment works was to fully decorate all previously decorated sash windows (entrance doors and cast-iron downpipes.
Upon completion of the works, we received many compliments from Building Management and residents alike.
Main Entrance Gate Piers:
Having completed external refurbishment works to the main blocks Minerva were instructed to turn their attention to the Main Entrance Gate Piers.
The works here included scaffolding to the full height of the brick piers. The scaffold was enclosed with plastic sheeting to protect members of the public whilst the cleaning of the brickwork was undertaken using a DOFF steam cleaning system.
The existing terracotta/faience cappings were sympathetically repaired then decorated using a Keim micro porous paint system.
The final aspect of the works involved relighting the original glass globe fittings visible at the top of each pier.
